Following the recent halt of gas supplies via the Nord Stream pipeline from Russia, which is now completely non-operational due to suspected sabotage, the energy crisis in Europe is only set to worsen.
In France, several nuclear power plants have shut down for maintenance, while Germany has shut off its nuclear power plants altogether as they transition to green energy technologies.
As we reported in August, Germany’s biggest cities were already preparing to limit heat and shut off warm water and lighting in response to the crisis.
Telecom industry officials now fear that a severe winter will push Europe’s telecoms infrastructure to the limit, forcing governments to shut down vast networks to save vital energy, causing mobile network blackouts.
According to telecom executives, there are insufficient backup systems to handle widespread power cuts, making mobile phone outages likely.
