Don't Cry For Me Small Business America
Not all business owners are millionaires, and they certainly don't have "riot insurance"
To say small businesses across America have encountered a year like never before is an understatement. COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions have demolished thousands of small businesses permanently, with restaurants, often viewed as “essential businesses” being just at risk of permanent closure depending on your town.
For the American political class, however, the closing of small businesses is just a necessary result to create a world where literally no one dies of COVID as far as they’re concerned. When businesses across the country were burned and looted, liberal pundits said it was just the voice of the people being heard due to “systemic racism”, that those business owners could pick up thanks to riot insurance.
That’s the thing though, businesses aren’t just economic tools, they aren’t just buildings, they aren’t just a space at your local strip mall or a listing on Yelp, they are part of the fabric which helps drive communities, craft culture, and many more opportunities for many people.
From The Daily Torch:
Losing restaurants is more than losing great food and ambiance. It’s losing the dreams of the owners and their staff. It’s a loss for those who work there, often younger people learning the tricks of the trade. They may dream of opening their own restaurant or maybe another type of small business. Their jobs at places such as a local restaurant teach them lessons that are better for them than anything they could possibly learn in a classroom.
Losing restaurants also hurts the community surrounding them. People have their favorite places to go after a local high school game, after church, or for lunch while on the job. They see the same sign and same building every day when driving home or going out on errands. By the way, the more money a restaurant makes, the more money the staff has in their pockets to go out and spend elsewhere. It makes no sense for a political power play to take that from the day-to-day lives of average Americans.
It makes too much sense to open back up, you know it, I know it, a ton of us know it. But these proposed set of lockdowns coming in this “Dark Winter” stopped being about COVID a long time ago, it ended when “two weeks to flatten the curve” turned into a year out of a conspiracy theorist’s wildest dreams.
We’re way past COVID now, this is about drastically altering the American landscape.

Hey Nerds! A Recent Comic Book Review I Wrote
I recently published a review of Valiant Entertainment’s Doctor Tomorrow limited series at SecondPrintComics.com:
2020 was supposed to be Valiant Entertainment’s year, but sadly, like so many other companies and industries throughout the world, it wouldn’t be. No, you can’t blame this on the pandemic, you can’t even blame the adjusted publishing schedule which has pushed the entire comic publishing world off-balance. For the Doctor Tomorrow five-issue limited series, the only factor here to blame is uninspired writing, and an art style one could only describe as overly-cartoonish by industry standards.

The dumbest thing I read
Sometimes I come across something so dumb, I have to share it with you to make sure I’m not the only one thinking this is:
And if conservatives are upset over Styles’ gorgeous gown, they’re really not going to like one of the newest trends on TikTok: young women dressing their boyfriends up in maid costumes. This new generation of women aren’t just open to boundary-breaking men, they’re actively seeking them out. They want men in skirts, men in makeup — they want men secure enough to have fun with their look rather than the anxious masculinity of gym selfies and frat bros.
And men are picking up on that desire: In fact, there are so many straight young men donning nail polish and skirts online to get female attention that there’s been a corresponding backlash of videos explaining that men in makeup can be just as misogynist as men in khakis.
